Caribbean Cuisine with a Latin Twist
Born and raised in Jamaica, Chef Alex Powell has honed his talents over 25 years of restaurant experience and extensive work with renowned Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1991, Chef Alex attended the New York Restaurant School and kick-started his restaurant career at Jean-Georges’ JoJo. Since then, Powell has held Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine titles at fine-dining establishments like 701 in DC and Dune at The Ocean Club in the Bahamas, as well as consulting on and opening projects across the U.S. and Caribbean, before landing in the kitchens of Miami’s Edition Hotel.
With such industry expertise, Chef Alex brings his first solo culinary venture, Kali’s Island Spice, to St. Roch Market Miami. Offering Caribbean cuisine with a Latin twist, Kali’s showcases the spices and ingredients of Powell’s homeland. Expect refreshing hearts of palm salad, savory Jamaican beef patties, spicy jerk chicken paired with fresh-baked roti, and much more.
